Enabling Theft Protection in BigRock

To prevent unauthorized transfer of your domain name or enable theft protection, you will need to do some steps stated as follows:

  1. Log in to your account. When your account has been logged in, you will be directed to a page where all your purchases were made on the system.

  1. Click the domain name you want to enable theft protection in BigRock.

  1. In the Domain Registration, choose “theft protection”.
  1. Choose Enable and then click the button “Update Theft Protection Status”.

In order for the changes to be updated, wait for at least an hour. When status of domain, “clientTransferProhibited”, on the WhoIs is posted, theft protection is successfully enabled.

Disabling Theft Protection in BigRock

When unlocking your domain name or disabling theft protection, you must know few things about a lock before proceeding. A lock is placed in a domain because of the following:

  • 60-Day Transfer Lock – According to ICANN policy, domain names are locked with a registrar within a period of 60 days from the date of purchase or transfer. During this period, your domain name cannot be transferred to another registrar; this lock cannot be disabled.
  • Theft Protection – By default, a domain name registered has a lock enabled on it which is called Theft Protection. This is to keep your domain safe from any unauthorized transfer.

After knowing those things and checking if the 60-day transfer lock is over, you can now proceed on disabling theft protection. To disable theft protection, follow these steps below:

  1. Log in to your account. After logging in, you will be directed to a page where all your purchases were made on the system.

  1. Click the domain name you want to disable theft protection.

  1. In the Domain Registration, choose “theft protection”.
  1. Choose Disable and then click the button “Update Theft Protection Status”.

You need to wait for one hour to two hours for the changes to be updated. When theft protection is successfully disabled, a WhoIs check status of domain will be posted as “OK”.
