How to Install Plugins in WordPress

First of all the process of updating and installing is a bit different in some respects but before you be able to update or delete a plugin you have to install it first. So the steps on how to do it shall be listed below.

STEP 1: Go to the URL of the login page of the wordpress dashboard which is the domain name of the hosted website added with “/wp-admin” at the end. After it loads the image page below should be shown.

STEP 2: From the Dashboard page shown, on the menu left-side of the page find the “Plugins” and hover it.

STEP 3: Click on the “Add New” from the new menu that has been shown with hovering the “Plugins” from the menu left-side of the wordpress dashboard.

As you can see from the page above, you can use the search bar from the top-right side to search the plugin you desire to add to your page but for example purposes let’s assume that the  “Jetpack” plugin from the image above is what you needed.

STEP 4: From here you click “Install Now” from the desired plugin in this case which is the “Jetpack” plugin.

STEP 5: After pressing “Install now” the image shown above should be a confirmation that you managed to successfully install the desired plugin. If you wanted the plugin to be utilized then click “Activate Plugin” and that should do it.

You have successfully installed a new plugin.

How to Update Plugins in WordPress?

Now that we have learned how to add a plugin in WordPress lets now learn how to update the existing plugins. And the steps below are how you do it.

STEP 1: Do not log out of the WordPress account and make sure you are in the dashboard of the WordPress. In case you logged it out log it in again just like Step 1 from Installing a Plugin from above.

STEP 2: From the dashboard find the “Plugins” from the menu in the left-side of the dashboard hover it and click on the “Installed Plugins”.

STEP 3: Once the page loads from the actions you have done above. From the list of plugins, use the search function from the top-right corner or scroll down until you found the desired plugin that you’d like to update.

STEP 4: Assuming you found the plugin you’d like to update. Check the checkbox of the plugin you’d like to update and then find the dropdown function above the list of plugins near the menu from the left side. As you click it select the “Update” option and then click “Apply” button next to it.

You wait for the confirmation of the update and there you have it! You have managed to update a plugin. Take note that you can also use this method to “Activate”, “Deactivate” or delete a plugin as long as you select it from the dropdown box shown from the image above.
