How to Use FileZilla FTP Client

Before we discuss how to use filezilla to transfer file, first, let’s talks about what is it about. Filezilla is a graphical platform that gives a cross path in dealing ftp, ftps and stp client. It was developed by the open source community and released it without payment and charges. This done in order to obtain its genuine license by the general public users.

It was a tool for uploading, downloading the files as well as managing and maintaining it in the remote server. The simplicity of its interface gives an easy access in operating the complex task of sorting the website files and narrows the process by drag and drop. Here, we’ll give a step-by-step Filezilla tutorial for beginners.

To get started, here are the simple steps that the user are ought to follow.

First step on learning how to use Filezilla to transfer file, open the web browser and navigate address bar and search it by typing “filezilla-project.org”. Then hit ‘enter’ or you can simply search it in the search engine that set to your browser as default.

The first result will bring you to its official site so it can be either way. Accessing the download link in third party sites are highly discouraged. They are prone to issues that may harm to your system unit.

Next, click the huge gray button located at the left side. The button was labeled “download Filezilla client” as the picture shown below.

There are several downloads to choose and each are organized according to operating system.  Each operating system that grouped offers different option for the sake of user’s preference. These are executable installer and self-contained .zip file. Choose the installer file that is right for the system requirements.

It appears that executable installer version mark as “recommended”. If that’s the case, click the option providing an executable installer which it was likely the safest route and download it. Now the users obtain their own copy of Filezilla ftp client.

How to Configure the Connection in FileZilla

Next step in our Filezilla tutorial for beginners, we must know how to configure its connection too. The user is ready to use the software so it will proceed to the configuration. The sole purpose of it is to access the website file with organization so it needs to establish a connection between the remote server and local machine.

Step 1: In the text field for the host, type there the server that the user would like to connect.

Step2: Fill in the username and password that provides as a security to the chosen server.

Step 3: In the text field for the port, if the user had one, type the port they are using. Otherwise the software will assume that the user uses the default port number which is 21.

Step 4:  Click the “quick connect”.

The user succeeds in establishing the connection with ftp server so those connections are stored in history. The user may reconnect always to avoid repetition of configuration by clicking the pull down arrow beside the “Quick connect” button and choose to click the “abort previous connection and connect in current tab”.

Step 5: In dealing the multiple connections, use the site manager to manage the files in more organized manner. That is by simply going to click the “file” then scroll to find the “site manager”. As the user go there, the fill up field requires the same in establishing connection which appears to be another server to connect.

Step 6: There the user can make a new folder to specify the sites by its respective group they intend to sort out by simply drag and add.

All are set up to the remote server so the user could simply pull down the menu on the left side indicating “My Website” to select the previous connection that have established.

Transfer and Manage File in FileZilla

To learn how to use Filezilla to transfer file, we must also learn how to manage its files. In Filezilla, the interface already serves the access of folders and files in the entity of local machine by separating in column.

Its panel was placed on the left side of user interface. On the right side was the fully access of the files and folders in the remote ftp site which you set up in configuration phase.

Filezilla made a lot of easier to transfer the files on the both sides. The flexibility can stretch to the degree of acquiring the task through sense by dragging the folders from file explorer in the basic operating system if the user wants a wider space of panel in performing the drag and drop. The files were automatically uploaded to the remote server after the cognitive process.

Final Thoughts: How to Use Filezilla

It is the matter of exploration to learn and adapt to use the tool in such manner. The remote system has the full access to the local machine it can go anywhere to the directory that wish to manage. The files will remotely change and delete the files in the server.

The html file that store on the main folder would be the primary or index page. The capabilities would instantly be convenient for the web developers. It isn’t also a heavy program that allocates big memory so the activity of it in the system wouldn’t be a problem.
